Good Life Journal – Psalm 84

Scripture:

Psalm 84:10 – For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere.  I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.

Observation:

The psalmist is saying that it is better to be with God for a short period of time than to be anywhere else for an extended period.  To serve God in what some would be consider a menial task is better than to live a luxurious life of sin/wickedness.

Application:

God blesses those and gives strength to those that are his children. There is no place I can search or find that is better than with the Father.  When I place my faith in Jesus as my savior, through God’s grace I am given the gift of eternal life with Him.  We all have different roles in order to advance the kingdom.  Jesus came to serve, not to be served.  There are no roles that are not valued and they are all important whether you are a doorkeeper/greeter or someone setting up the house of God.  Serving God, although it does not always seen glamorous, is in response to the Gospel rather than living for self.

Prayer:

Father,

Thank you for your love and grace and calling me to be your child. Help me to follow Jesus and serve however, wherever to advance your Kingdom and give you the glory.
