  • Good Life Journal – Hebrews 8

    Scripture:

    Hebrews 8:1-2

Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, a minister in the holy places, in the true tent[a] that the Lord set up, not man.

    Observation:

Jesus is seated at the right hand of The Father. Though He is seated, He is not inactive. He is ministering.

    Application:

Tomorrow I will get up and minister through the Word in an elementary school that is set-up by human hands. We will sing, listen, pray and baptize. We will have church and be the church. However, as I write this, Jesus is ministering as well. He is the best minister of all time. He is seated in a true tent, set-up by the Lord, not by man. He is not just sitting there. He is ministering. A few things…

-Jesus is active. I need to remember this. Jesus isn’t just watching. He is still ministering and still working. I need Him to move in my life. He isn’t just a spectator.

-Heaven is a set-up culture just like Good Life. However, heaven doesn’t ever takedown. When we are taking down tomorrow I will be reminded that though the tent of heaven was set-up, it won’t be torn down.

-The work that needs to be done tomorrow in the Good Life family must be done through the active ministry of Jesus. I want Him to use me, Jared and Forrest. I want Him to use each greeter, Little Lifer’s servant leader and every person on the worship and prayer team. However, if life change, eternity change is gonna happen, we must trust in HIM!

    Prayer:

Oh Jesus! You are active. Be active in us tomorrow!

  • Good Life Journal – Hebrews 6

    Scripture:

We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

     Hebrews 6:19-20

    Observation:

A promise had been made, a way has been paved, and a promise has been fulfilled in the Christ the Lord of all. A promise that was waited for has been revealed.

    Application:

As I read this chapter this morning I thought about many times we claim promises of God and promises to see what we desire to come to come true. We claim them as if these promises are the hope of our materialistic future on earth. We say, we will wait on the miracle, we will wait on the promise and we even go to stories of Abraham to say that he waited on the promise and it came true, we should.  The beauty of verses 19 and 20 is the promise is Jesus. ALL promises are found in Jesus. We have a SURE and steadfast hope and anchor for the soul and it is Jesus. HE has gone to the inner place behind the curtain as our high priest.

Now, I know that promises in the Bible that give us direction are powerful yet can never find a replacement for Jesus. The promises of God must point me to the hope of Jesus. 2 Corinthians 1:20 says, “For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his Glory.”

The promises of God are found in Jesus, and given to give Glory to God.

    A couple things:

    1. Know the promises of God are for the Glory of God.

    2. We have sure hope for our soul, trust in him daily. He IS THE PROMISE.

    3. Know that Jesus went where I could not in order to give me access to what I didn’t deserve.

    Prayer:

Father, may my heart raise up gratitude, praise, adoration, and all that you require and desire because of what you have done. Jesus, forgive me for my disobedience and lack of faith and pursuit. I trust in you Jesus to change me and lead me to obediene.

  • Good Life Journal – Hebrews 5

    Scripture:

“About this we have much to say (and it is hard to explain) since you have become dull of hearing.

For though by this time you ought to be teachers you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the Oracles of God.  You need milk…not solid food…for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the way of righteousness since he is a child.  (But) solid food is for the mature; for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.  (Heb 5:11-14)

    Observation:

The writer to the Hebrews is still hammering on the readers.  It is like he is saying: “Hello, McFly…get your head on straight and in the game.”  Growth in depth is required…

    Application:

I wish I didn’t read this and think that it applies to someone else.  I REALLY wish that I didn’t have specific people in mind when I read this that it applies to.  It is a chore to read this for the person whom it really applies to…

    Me.

Let’s see how many points I can check off:

    1.       Dull of hearing CHECK

    2.       Don’t know or forget the basic Oracles of God CHECK

    3.       Need milk CHECK

    4.       Needing milk over and over again-immature CHECK

    5.       Unskilled in the way of righteousness CHECK

    6.       Lazy and needing practice to hone my discernment CHECK

Yep, got most of them in this list and I know mostly I am deficient because of one thing: I neglect training.

There is a lot to learn from the Letter to Hebrews.  The writer is addressing Jews who have believed but are having difficulty wrapping their heads and hearts around the truth of the Gospel because they want to do what they used to do as well—not in some sort of rebellious way but because the Hebrew believers didn’t know any better.  They tried to put the freedom of the Cross into their previous frame of reference and were failing left and right.

I think that is why they were continuing to need milk-because they couldn’t get past the implication of the Cross and the Atonement of the Son of God being sacrificed for the sins of the world.

I need milk for the same reason: I fall into the trap of forgetting what the Gospel means for my life and my relationship with my Lord….and the church.  Note: Christianity cannot be practiced effectively alone.  It is designed for and perfected in community.

What do I do now?  The Bible says a lot but this passage gives some direction:

    1.        Get the basic principles of the Gospel down cold.

    2.       With those basic principles in hand, start doing those things that are effective in developing skills.

    3.       Those developing skills should be applied to develop specific discernment of the difference of good and evil-as the Gospel defines it (which is way more than what our society defines).

    4.       And practice; on purpose; with intention; and in cooperation with the Holy Spirit so that the Name is honored in every step of our lives.  AMEN.

    Prayer:

Father.  I hope what I have written above is clear and concise.  I mean it to be.  You who are eternal please take what I said and use it to Your own purpose.  Help me not be prideful but to serve You all my days.  AMEN.

  • Good Life Journal – Hebrews 4

    Scripture:

Hebrews 4:16 – Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in the time of need.

    Observation:

Jesus, son of God, is our great high priest who is able to sympathize and understand our weakness as he also was a man. Jesus is God as the author tells us Jesus passed through the heavens in verse 14.  As a human, Jesus understands our temptation but was perfect and never sinned.  Therefore, as God who became the perfect man we are offered grace and mercy through Jesus.

    Application:

I can confidently know Jesus understands my struggles and my needs.  God has offered me undeserving grace through the sacrifice Jesus made for me on the cross and He has already met my greatest need.  God wants to have a relationship with us all and we are reconciled to Him through Jesus.  I must continue to draw near to Jesus and he will be near to me to help in times of trouble.  Let me always be in prayer and praise Jesus for the grace and mercy he has given me.

    Prayer:

    Father,
Thank you for your love, grace and mercy you have given us through your son, Jesus.  Let me boldly draw near to you knowing you will be near to me and understand my needs.  May I praise you, share your love and serve you so all the glory is yours.

  • Good Life Journal – Hebrews 3

Scripture : “So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief” – Hebrews 3:19

Observation : The writer of Hebrews chapter three looks at the nation of Israel under the leadership of Moses in comparison to the church and Christ. Moses was a faithful servant in God’s house but Jesus is the one over the house. The writer states that it was because of unbelief that the nation of Israel had to wander in the desert for 40 years before entering the promised land.

Application : Unbelief is a serious charge in the Kingdom. I want to be a person marked by my belief in God and willingness to trust Him. Today, let me not act outside of belief and more importantly than what I see, my belief in the God who is over it all.

Prayer :  God thank You for the gift of faith and Your faithfulness to me. Help me to trust in You and believe in You today.

  • Good Life Journal – Hebrews 2

    Scripture:

“Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard lest we drift away from it….

Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God to make propitiation for the sins of the people; for because He Himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.”   Heb 2:1 and 17-18

    Observation:

There are bunches of “therefore’s” in Hebrews.  I have to look hard and pay attention to why are the “therefore’s” there for?

    Application:

There are two verses in Hebrews 2 that caught my attention.  The first is the statement “we much pay closer attention…lest we drift away from it.”

Drift is the right word.  I am always taken by the fact that I can drift away.  I wander, I “ooze”, I creep, and every movement like those that I can’t think of…away from Jesus.  This is not real good theology but it is an apt description of what happens to me.

I get distracted by something small.  It starts to consume more of my mental energy and focus.  It is a factor in breaking a habit of, oh, just about anything good: I stop my daily prayer time; my reading the Scriptures time; exercise; fellowshipping; hospitality; and other things.  I don’t really consciously “stop” doing these things, I just take a day off, go on vacation, and that kind of thing.  One day turns into two days which turn into a week and all of a sudden it is next year and I realize “what happened?”  Then I struggle to get back into the habit again…

This happens to all of us: part of our fallen nature and succumbing to temptation.

That is why the second reference is so important:  Jesus is well aware of the temptations that come our way.  The Scripture is very clear here: “…he had to be like His brothers in every respect…”  Jesus knows exactly how we are, not in a theoretical God-type exercise but an actual experience for a specific reason:

“…so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest…”  Jesus can be our High Priest before God the Father and plead forgiveness to our sorry lot because of His work of Atonement on our behalf.

So, to review: When we sin (and we do) we know without a doubt that Jesus knows exactly what we succumbed to and why-because He was confronted with the temptation and did not succumb to the temptation.  Also, because He knows how weak our frame is he can sympathize but firmly and with appropriate gentleness direct us to repent and turn from our sin.  While He is at it, He is our Priest before God the Judge attesting to His work of Atonement on our behalf, resulting in our continued acquittal from the penalty of our sin.

And because of this tremendous reminder, it is a daily requirement to pay specific and closer attention because we really don’t want to drift away from remembering what and who Jesus is.

There are so many points of the Gospel to learn and remember, isn’t there?  Take note: to not be shaken, firm up our foundations.

    Prayer:

Lord Jesus.  It seems I learn daily of the impact of the Atonement on my life.  It is a large part of “transforming my mind to prove what Your will is…”  Thank You for providing clarity on the subject step by step.  Thank You for showing how this knowledge applies to my life.  I am so very grateful-this is not a dry exercise for me and You see that.  I want to speak about it daily.  AMEN.

  • Good Life Journal – Hebrews 1

    Scripture:

    Hebrews 1:1-2
Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.

    Observation:

As the writer of Hebrews starts he begins the story of Christ as a continuation of the narrative of God’s dealing with His people. First God used the prophets. Many of them over hundreds of years speaking to the people on behalf of God. However, in Christ, God has spoken clearly. He has revealed His presence and perfection through Christ. Jesus not only had a message from God, He was the presence of God before mankind. He not only had a message, but more importantly, accomplished a task that no project has done before. Instead of addressing and confronting sin, Jesus conquered it through the cross and resurrection. He then sat down at the right hand of God, victorious and with full authority.

    Application:

As we study the prophets of the Old Testament, we must see and experience their message through the lens of Christ. The message and mission of Jesus is the completion of all other messages and missions. A few things…

-If I want to see God, I just have to look to Jesus. There is no other biblical character that is a clearer depiction of the the creator than Jesus. He is the creator in flesh. (If my image of God is different than Jesus, something is wrong)

-The last days are upon us. Though this passage is 2000 years old, the truth of the last days is still reality. I should not be awaiting another prophet. All I need to know, believe and experience is in Christ.

-The biblical narrative points to Christ. By attempting to apply the teachings and warning of the Old Testament prophet without the clarity the gospel brings, I will be misguided and lead those I am influencing in the wrong direction. All scripture is inspired by God, however all direction, warning and challenges are to be viewed and applied through the gospel. Our whole faith is “in Christ”, therefore the understanding and application of the scripture must be in Christ or we run the risk of conforming the gospel into the image of every other religion.

    Prayer:

In Christ the message of the prophets is clarified. In Christ we have victory and the gospel. May I see, study, apply and teach the Word through the power and authority of Jesus and the gospel. Thank you Father for the gospel! May I never compromise.

  • Good Life Journal – Ephesians 5

    Scripture:

    Ephesians 5:4

Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving.

    Observation:

Walking in love and honoring the Father through the Lord Jesus Christ is what we are called to. Walking in a manner that is worthy of Christ and not in step with the disobedient of which the wrath of God is coming is what we are called to. The temptation to old self is there and won’t go away, yet the calling is much higher for the saints and children of God.

    Application:

Speech is important. Words carry weight. Words tell stories. Words or spoken and the Gospel is heard through words. I am truly convicted in this passage today as I can find myself joking inappropriate manners, talking about people, saying words I should not say that are not honoring to the Lord. What is communicated is that this type of talking and speech is out of place among the believers. The beauty of this passage is that God gives us what not to stay and gives us what to say. Let our words and mouths sing thanksgiving and psalms and hymns. A culture that is built on words and what we say to each other and how we dictate value based on how we respond and speak into people we must take what God is saying our words should be used for. What is in place for me is thanksgiving and praise. Also, building others up and encouraging others and giving grace to the hearer.

    Prayer:

Father, help me love people. Help me use my words to love people enough and help me to see my faults and sin and repent. Help me, Jesus, to honor you and walk in obedience with my speech.

  • Good Life Journal – Ephesians 4

    Scripture:

“I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called-with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace…Now I say and testify in the Lord that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do:  In the futility of their minds…

But that is not the way you learned Christ!-(what you have) heard about Him and were taught in Him…to put off your old self (which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires) and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds and to put on the new self-created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”  Excerpts from Eph 4:1-3, v17, 20-23

    Observation:

Paul: “Because of what I have written in the last three chapters and how you should reference foundationally-therefore I urge you to…”  What and how should I review pursuing holiness, pursuing “walking worthy of the calling”, putting on the new self…

How important is that?  How do I identify what to do?  How do I execute it?  What do I prioritize or do I have to do all of this now?

    Application:

My eyes glaze over.  I thought I was set free from the bondage of rules and regulations.

Ephesians chapter 1 through 3 ramped up all the reasons that this “urging” by Paul makes sense.  But how do I do these things like putting on humility, putting on gentleness, putting on patience…what does bearing with one another look like and in what situations do I need to do it with and what situation this doesn’t apply?

What does “putting off and putting on” mean to me?

Walking in a manner worthy of the calling to which we have been called is a path that has talked about in the Scriptures, described in the Scriptures, and is something that I should pay attention to.  But why isn’t this talked about more with the brothers and sisters I am in community with?  Why don’t I talk with my Lord about this more?  Why don’t I preach to the guy in the mirror?

I have a lot of “why’s” written here.  My imagination says that many other folks either have the same “why’s” or, because answers and directions are so hard to come by, simply move on to something else that is easier to define and act on—or just not do anything at all on purpose.

It is this phrase “on purpose” that can be the speed bump in the road toward walking worthy.  To pursue something with purpose means a plan; it also means to identify an issue that needs a plan to address.

Once upon a time I approached this with an attitude to do it all at the same time; no plan, just address things as the Spirit guided me-basically ad hoc and unfocused-and with predictable results.  Problem here is that I am only listening to the Spirit about this when I am thinking about it (and I didn’t think about it often).

So what could I do?  I decided to cooperate with the Holy Spirit and the Holy Scriptures and start a plan.  I started with the Fruit of the Spirit but worked backward through the list.  Why?  It is because the end of these lists are more of the detail that needs to be overcome in my life.

Paul wrote this to Timothy: “Practice these things; immerse yourself in them so all may see your progress…Persist in this…” (I Tim 4:14-15).  Practicing walking worthy of the Gospel takes determination.  Be determined therefore to honor Him who called you.

    Prayer:

Lord God.  I am very much aware of haphazard I am in pursuing this subject.  And yet I want to be persistent.  It is important to keep putting one foot in front of the other.  Help me to address sanctification methodically-starting with foundations of the Gospel.  For You and You alone I bow my head….AMEN.

  • Good Life Journal – Ephesians 3

    Scripture:

Ephesians 3:18-19 – may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with the fullness of God.

    Observation:

Paul has just told the Ephesians not to lose heart for his suffering for the sake of the gospel.  The glory of the gospel outweighs his suffering and he is encouraging the Ephesians with a prayer for spiritual strength.  Paul’s request is that they and all believers may have the spiritual strength to know the overwhelming, never ending and unfathomable love of Christ.  When you do recognize the immeasurable love of God through Christ, that itfills you from the fullness of God.

    Application:

1 John 4:19 says, “We love because he first loved us.”  I must remember the breadth, length, height and depth of God’s love for me that he sent Jesus to the cross in my place. When we place our faith and trust in Christ, as believers we receive the power of the Holy Spirit within us.  Paul is praying for the Spirit to give strength beyond understanding to have the same power that raised Jesus from the dead in our hearts.  As I walk with Jesus and receive the powerful love that God has given me by His grace, then I am filled and in position to pour his love out to others.  Only the love of God through Christ and the Spirit within us has the power to change the brokenness in our hearts.  Changed hearts, change lives and they love one another.   This love and mercy which can’t be explained by academic standards of knowledge is the essence of the Christian life.

    Prayer:

    Father,

Thank you for your overwhelming, never ending love, grace and mercy you give to me each and every day.  Let the power of the Holy Spirit give me strength to comprehend, receive your love and share it with others to give you the glory!

  • Good Life Journal – Ephesians 1

    Scripture:

    Ephesians 1:13-14

In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

    Observation:

After introducing himself as the writer of the letter, Paul communicates that as a believer he had been predestined as a saint, an adopted son, a recipient of his wisdom and forgiveness and one who has had the will of God revealed to him. He then includes the readers of the letter in this same group and points out that they too have the guarantee of the same inheritance because they believed on Christ when they heard and received the Holy Spirit.

    Application:

From a scriptural sense, this passage is one of the strongest and most clear presentations of the theology of predestination. That is the theological stance that spiritual life and death are predetermined even before our own birth and that God’s sovereign will is determined not by our actions in life but according to His perfect plan. Regardless of ones stance on this theology this passage does make a few things clear…

-The reception of the gospel of Jesus Christ is the revelation and vehicle to experience eternal life. If the gospel of Jesus Christ is not revealed, a person can not believe and therefore does not receive the Holy Spirit. (Action Step: Preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ is essential to people experiencing life)

-The love of God is the motivation of the revelation of the Son and therefore the motivation for the reconciliation and redemption of man. In other words the only reason we can experience eternal life and the inheritance of sonship is because of the Love of God made evident through Christ. (Action Step: If the motive of reconciliation and redemption is the love of God, then my message to others better clearly communicate that and be fueled by that)

-The reception of the promised Holy Spirit comes by hearing and believing on the word of truth which is the gospel of salvation. (Action Step: The Spirit doesn’t come on someone without hearing and experiencing the gospel. God can use silent rocks if He wants, but I’d rather be obedient and have him use me and my mouth and life.)

    Prayer:

Father you have predestined me as a child, a son, a recipient of your love and Spirit. May I take this same gospel, this same love, and this same faith and preach it so that others may hear, respond and receive you and all that comes with that.

  • Good Life Journal – Ephesians 2

Scripture : Ephesians 2:4-6 – But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus”

Observation : Ephesians chapter two discusses our identity in Jesus. It is given to the believer by grace and through faith. Verses 4-6 show the power of the gospel, that even when we were dead in sin God made us alive and not only cancelled our debt but credited to us Jesus.

Application : My identity is in Jesus. I am no longer dead to sin but I have been made alive in Christ. Even further He has seated me with himself in heaven. This should change the way that I live. Why be so concerned with the things that can stress and bog me down on earth when they will not last? If something doesn’t have eternal consequence does it really matter? Today I want to live in my identity in Christ and with an eye set on eternity.

Prayer : Thank You Jesus for loving me even when I was dead in sin. For your grace and mercy and for Your righteousness. Help me to live today in light of eternity.

  • Good Life Journal – Galatians 6

    Scripture:

    Galatians 6:14

But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

    Observation:

The apostle Paul did not trust in any of the earthly or religious accolades he had received to be his confidence among others. Instead he boasted only in the work of Christ. This is what defined him, sustained him and was his eternal hope and confidence.

    Application:

In a world in which the system teaches us to prop ourselves up and get noticed, the gospel calls us to a different lifestyle. It is not the stuff we accomplish or our earthly resume that should be our story. Even if we accomplish much we must see it through the proper perspective.

    A few things…

-I must see my life through the lens of the gospel. I am completely dependent on the work of Christ for life, liberty and eternal hope. Therefore, with such a great dependence on Him, my confidence must be in Him alone.

-My obedience and accomplishments are only possible through His obedience and His great accomplishment on the third day. Therefore, anything I ever “do” is simply made possible by what He has already “done”.

-My future and decisions should not be made based on what I have done or what I want to do. Instead my decisions should rest in the clarity of who He has called me to be and who he has directed me to influence through His Spirit.

    Prayer:

At the end of my life I simply want to have pointed people towards you and your great gospel. I don’t care if my name is ever remembered. I don’t care if people think highly of me. I simply want people to know they are loved by you and that your hope through the gospel is what they are searching for. May I only boast in your great work and not anything you have ever used me to do.

  • Good Life Journal – Galatians 5

    Scripture:

    Galatians 5

1 For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love.

7 You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?

11 But if I, brothers, still preach circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed.

13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

    Observation:

Paul, a man who was so set on enforcing the law that he encouraged the killing of Christians, now says the only thing that counts for anything is faith working through love.

Faith in what? Faith that Christ has set us free.

Free from what? Not freedom from the law, but that the cross has removed the penalty of falling short of the law.

Paul says the cross is offensive.

Christ Jesus was executed to set me free.

Paul actually says to “call us to freedom”.

And yet, this freedom is being used as “opportunities for the flesh”.

    Application:

I consider the cross many things, but do I consider it offensive? Paul did.

In an era when everyone is personally offended by everything, do I appreciate the offense of the cross? Jesus, God and perfect man, was butchered on an instrument of Roman torture and death for us … for me. This is offensive!

And I belittle it with opportunities of the flesh!

I actually do worse than belittle it.

I have the gall to call it freedom! Ugh!

Paul asks an important question: “Who hinders from obeying the truth?”

It is me. I hinder me. … I put on the yoke.

I must appreciate the offense of the cross, the greatest act of Love the world has ever known.

If I truly appreciated the offense of the cross, I would be eager to serve one another through love.

And I would see it as freedom!

It is this freedom I am called to.

    Prayer:

God help me know the offense of the cross.

Help me see others as opportunities to live out love freely.

Spirit empower me to do so

    In Jesus name

    Amen

  • Good Life Journal – Galatians 4

    Scripture:

    Galatians 4:7
So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.

    Observation:

My identity through Christ is one of sonship to God. I am no longer a slave. Though I serve, I am not merely a servant. I am a son.

    Application:

Identity is so important. Whenever I walk into a room, if I am not careful, the room will shape me. If I walk into a room of people who expect me to lead, I lead. If I walk into a room of people who expect me to make them laugh, I tell jokes and try to be quick witted. If I walk into a room of people who expect em to give them energy, I bring the energy. If I walk into a room of people who expect me to listen, I listen. However, what I hear today is that I am already someone before I walk in the room. I can’t allow other’s expectation of me to shape me or my behavior. Instead, I should walk into a room knowing who I truly am. I am a child of God, made possible only through Christ. If I walk into the room knowing this, then I am not shaped by what others expect or how I do or don’t measure up to their expectations.

    A few things:
-Apart from Christ, I would have a hopeless identity. Only because of Him am I a son. He made me something I was not before. I am indebted to Christ for my identity.

-A son is such an amazing role to play. A son means I have a Father. That I have been given a name because I have taken on His identity because of the adoption made possible through Christ.

-An heir. Wow. To get the chance to not only be a son, but that I get to be an heir to the Kingdom promises. The kingdom promises are mine. Not because I deserve it. Not because I earned it. But because I get to inherit that which is already my Father’s. May I rest in this, even when it seems that my present doesn’t align with the promises of the Kingdom.

    Prayer:

Father, thank you for loving me enough to send Jesus. Thank you for adopting me. Thank you for calling me a child.
