Scripture

Vs 2 Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples.

Vs 3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.”

Vs 4 And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.”

Vs 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

VS 7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim.

VS 8 And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So, they took it.

Vs 9 … the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from

(Though the servants who had drawn the water knew)

Vs 11 This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory.

And his disciples believed in him.

Vs 22 When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this,

and they believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.

Observation

What stands out to me immediately this morning is the absolute humanity of Jesus.

He and his friends were invited to a wedding.

He had friends! … not just disciples.

Jesus was a social guy … not just a “teacher”, or even “Lord”!

What also stands out is the issue at the party was brought to Jesus.

He was a “guest”, not “in charge”.

Why bring it to Jesus?

What stands out still is the reaction of the “servants” … they actually followed the “guests” instruction.

“Fill the jars” … and …” take it to the master of the feast”

This was some “work” … and a “risk” … but they did it!

Finally, what stands out is the result in the disciples …

They “believed in Him”.

And ultimately, when Jesus was raised from the dead …

They “believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken”.

Application

Would I invite Jesus to a wedding I was hosting?

Jesus is my Lord … is He my friend?

I want Jesus around in “holy spaces” … do I want Jesus around in “social places”?

I hope so … He calls me His friend … I should return the favor.

Do I bring my details to Jesus?

What is my version of “They have no wine”.

“I’m running behind on this project” … “I don’t know how to handle this client” …

“I messed up with this friend” … “Why am I anxious today?”

I can’t think Jesus is Lord of the “big stuff”, without acknowledging He is Lord of “all”.

I must have to humility to say to Jesus, “I’m all out of …”

Do I follow His instruction without hesitation?

He’s not only friend … He is, indeed, Lord!

And not just Lord of salvation and forgiveness …

He is Lord of my days and relationships and problems and details.

Do I trust His guidance by responding with obedience?

Finally, trusting His words lead to trusting The Word.

The more I come to believe in Jesus as the Lord of every detail of my life,

I come to see the Scripture as alive, as well.

Prayer

Thank you, God, for Your Word

Help me invite you into every space

Help me have the humility to bring you details

Help me have the obedience to follow you in them

Help me have the belief in Your Scripture

In Jesus name

Amen
